Physiotherapy
Get support for joint, muscle and bone pain – No GP referral needed.
Accessing First Contact Physiotherapy in Taff Ely
If you’re suffering from muscle, joint or bone pain, there’s no need to wait to see a GP. Every GP surgery in the Taff Ely area now offers direct access to physiotherapy, so you can get expert help quickly.
What can a physiotherapist help with?
Physiotherapists are experts in musculoskeletal conditions (which affect the bones, joints, muscles, and soft tissue). They can:
- Assess your condition
- Diagnose the problem
- Help you create a self-management plan
- Refer you on if specialist care is needed
Many issues can improve with self-management and simple steps you can take at home. Your physiotherapist will talk you through this if appropriate.
How to get in touch
You can get in touch by calling your GP practice and giving the Care Navigator/Receptionist as much information as possible about your pain and issue. They will then book you the next available clinic slot with the physiotherapist.
Useful information can include:
- Where your pain is
- How long it’s been bothering you
- Any other relevant details
You can also call the Physiotherapy Hub on 01443 715012, open Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm or by filling in a self referral form.
What happens next
After you’re referred, a Physiotherapist will contact you to review your symptoms, offer advice and management techniques, and refer you to another service if needed. They will also offer you a face-to-face appointment at your surgery if necessary.
Appointments with Physiotherapists are offered based on availability. You can request to be seen at your nearest clinic, usually Dewi Sant Health Park (Pontypridd) or Royal Glamorgan Hospital (Llantrisant) – but please note this may involve a slightly longer wait.
