Back Pain

Back pain is a common complaint, which GPs see on a regular basis; usually it follows an acute injury such as lifting/bending etc, but if not, or if it is not getting better over time, then please see your GP to establish if there maybe an underlying cause that may be of concern.

GPs can provide general advice, and sometimes medication, however, usually most back pain subsides over time (sometimes up to 6 weeks).

Red flag symptoms
we look out for are: - Associated problems with bladder or bowel function, - loss or altered sensation 'down below' or - a weakness to the legs.

Please see the link to 'Self-referral physio' to learn about getting a full assessment, without needing to see your GP first, but please contact your surgery if you have more serious concerns.

More general information can be found on the NHS choices website, and also please watch the video above.
