Health Visitors
Health Visitors are qualified nurses and/or midwives. We then have further training in subjects such as Child Development, Family Structure, Community Health, Psychology and Health Promotion.
We work mainly with parents and young children (under 5 years), also with children with additional needs and sometimes other age groups; advising how to achieve good physical and emotional health. We also work with local schools in close liaison with teaching staff and school nurses.
We run Child Health Clinics with your GP in the surgery, where you can see us for health checks, immunisation, seek advice and also to meet other parents.
The vaccinations your child is offered may change in the future. Your Health Visitor, Practice Nurse or Pharmacist will be able to advise you. Information can be found on NHS Wales Direct.
We set up support groups and because of our good listening skills provide support in time of stress, anxiety and illness. We aim to develop a therapeutic relationship. All this work is kept in strict confidence.
We work closely with other professionals and are able to refer to them, where appropriate for further advice and expertise. This is done with your consent, the only exception to this is when we feel that a child is at risk of harm.
Please contact us through our base or your GP surgery with any problems no matter how small, and we will do our best to help you.
