Home Visits
IF A HOME VISIT IS REQUIRED, PLEASE REQUEST YOUR CALL AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE, UNLESS UNAVOIDABLE.
Please remember that home visits are for those patients who are housebound, or too unwell to attend their surgery that day. Undertaking home visits takes more of the GP's time than when seeing patients within surgery, so it is important they are considered appropriate in order to not reduce available appointments for other patients. Better clinical examinations as well as investigations, can take place in surgery, as opposed to on a home visit where the right facilities are often not available eg examination couches, ecg machines etc.
If a patient has a rash or a fever, attending surgery is very unlikely to cause harm or endanger others – just let the receptionist know and they will make the appropriate arrangements by finding them a separate waiting area.
