Join Foodwise for Life: A Course in Healthy Weight Management

​Foodwise for Life is an 8-week programme designed for anyone looking to make the shift towards a healthier lifestyle, and those looking to learn how to manage weight healthily. Foodwise for Life is a free, effective support resource to help you make sustainable lifestyle changes, that is delivered by Taff Elys trained Dietetic Assistant Practitioners. Sessions are fun and informal and cover a range of topics to encourage and support you. 
The course isn't just about losing weight; it's an all-round approach to reworking your relationship with food and exercise. It does this through fun, engaging, and supportive sessions, which can include exercise, cooking and nutrition classes designed to help you. Read on for what to expect!

Foodwise for Life classes 

Foodwise for Life classes are free can be completed in person or online and are fun and informal, covering helpful topics that will assist you on your weight loss journey. Including an hour of supported exercise or practical cooking sessions, you’ll learn about: 
  • Controlling portion sizes: Discover what a healthy portion size is, and how to manage and cook with portions that are appropriately sized. 
  • Managing hunger and cravings: Strategies that will help you manage your cravings and maintain your diet without giving in to them. 
  • Moving more: Ways to incorporate more movement into your daily life? We provide many ideas to help you find a form of exercise you enjoy. 
  • Understanding food labels: Learn more about which parts of food labels to pay attention to and what they mean to help you make informed choices in the supermarket. 
  • Conquering obstacles: Overcome common hurdles such as motivation and lack of knowledge in your journey to living a healthier life. 
  • Swapping, not cutting out: Make healthier food choices without feeling deprived of your favourites by swapping to healthier alternatives rather than cutting out altogether. ​

Benefits of Making Healthier Choices 

The benefits of healthy eating aren't just restricted to a healthy weight and feeling happier in your own skin. There are many other important positives that come with opting for a healthier lifestyle, including: 
  • Improved mood and energy: Healthy foods and a balanced diet will boost your mood and energy levels. 
  • Stronger immune system: Managing a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains strengthens your immune system, reducing the risk of preventative illnesses. 
  • Better heart health: Healthy diets can massively decrease the risk of heart disease, specifically diets low in sodium and unhealthy fats. 
  • Digestive health: High-fibre foods promote a healthy digestive system and prevent issues like constipation. 
  • Long-term health benefits: Healthy eating will lower your risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and certain cancers in the long run. ​

The Foodwise for Life programme is available and accessible across Cwm Taf Morgannwg, and has the added flexibility of sessions being available at various locations in your area or via Microsoft Teams from the comfort of your own home.
